2014 HMQS

I just spent the week at the Home Machine Quilting show in SLC, UT.  I saw so many amazing quilts.  Congratulations to Sue McCarty for her Best of Show win
Sherrie's quilt, that I quilted, took 3rd in Traditional Custom!
The judges said nice things about my "Modern" quilt, but it didn't fit what they were looking for.
This quilt was actually constructed form "Tails" blocks form the Head's and Tail's class I will be teaching in Panguitch in June.  It took about 30 hours to quilt it.  I had lots of fun just playing on it.

Hunter entered his quilt as well!

2014 Panguitch Quilt Walk

I am so excited that I have been invited to teach two classes at this years Quilt Walk!  It has been a few years since I have been down to the show.  I have missed it.  It is always lots of fun, and this year they have invited Jenny Doan as the guest teacher!!!
I am repeating a class I taught in 2010- "Heads and Tails Quilts".  We will sew two strips of fabric together, cut them into triangles, and then we will really have fun designing lots of different quilts!  If you refer to my 2010 posts, you will see the pictures from our class and get some ideas of what my students made.  We had so much fun!!!

The other class I am teaching is called "Spinning Star".  This is a technique class that teaches paper piecing using freezer paper.  IF you have ever done traditional paper piecing, you know what a pain it is to pick out all of the little pieces of paper.  This technique eliminates that step!  If you have never tried paper piecing, you will LOVE the precision you get in your blocks.  We will start simple and then move on to the more advanced "Spinning Star" pattern.  I have been working on a quilt with my blocks and two of my friends have been learning the process.  We had a retreat last week and I want to share some of the pictures I took.
These are the blocks I have been working on!  I am excited to get this quilt finished!!!

You can see all of the fun colors that I am including.

Jeannie's quilt will mostly be made with one line of fabric.

You can see how the contrast in fabrics really makes the block "POP"

Sherrie is making a patriotic themed quilt for her son, the firefighter.

This is another one of my blocks.

If  you have any questions, be sure to e-mail me at godoit4@gmail.com.
I hope to see you all in Panguitch!!!

I'm Back!!!- Again!

OK- it's been along while since I wrote on this blog.  The past few years have been filled with caring for my father, trying to keep my long arm business going, and generally keeping up with my family.  In Sept 2012, my Dad passed away after being in an Alzheimer's  unit for 18 months.  He was 91 years old.  My sister, age 62, passed away in May 2013 from a variant of Alzheimer's.
4 generations, My Daughter, Dayna, Dad, Granddaughter, Claire, and Me
My sister, Kayleen, and I.
I miss them , and my Mom, who passed away in 2008,  every day.

After some time to decompress, I think I am ready to pick up my life again and get back to some things I put on hold for awhile.  We'll see how long that lasts! :-)

Panguitch Quilt Walk 2011

I can't believe the year has gone so fast.  The new catalog for the Quilt walk has just been posted!  I am so excited to teach a class again this year.  The class will be "Paperless" paper piecing.  It is a fun technique that gives you the precision of paper piecing without having to pull all the little pieces out of your seams.

The project we will be doing is
"Star Crossed Canoes"
I haven't been able to do blocks in different colorways yet.  I am caring for my 89 year old Dad and life is NUTS!!!
Here's a couple I found on the web:

http://www.ciaspalette.com/patterns/05/crossedcanoes.html
you can see that she used just two fabrics in her design.
I used coordinating reds and blues and then used the lights for the background.
I also found a picture of a quilt done with about 10 different fabrics all mixed together.  It looked pretty cool.

I like to teach classes that give you lots of options to make the quilt your own.
We are going to have tons of fun.  Hope you all will join us!!!!

Panguitch 2010

Caryl and Gaye finished their "Heads and Tails" quilts!  Don't they look great!

Gaye donated hers to "Quilts of Valor" !
